What the Hell is a Saluki?

1) Part of the routine of the old AIU days was rushing over to the train after work, sitting on the bench at the far end of the platform, and hoping I didn't have to talk to any morons. Invariably, JNicho would make his way down to my end and we'd talk about whatever idiot happened to be topic-worthy that particular day. So imagine the rush of memories when, 2 months later, I walked up to the clark/lake stop (because it was such a nice day), and who happens to appear out of nowhere? I was greeted with a "well look at this fuck face!" and knew who it was immediately. The two year old sitting next to me seemed more surprised. Needless to say, Nicho was on his way to a hippie head shop on Armitage. I'll allow him to explain that one...

2) It appears BMac will be a Brave well into the next decade. Smartest. Move. Ever. Provided of course he doesn't get fat or something. Catchers tend to do that (I was a lean 140 in high school...now I'm a bulging 158)

3) Did you know? Southern Illinois is also known as "Floorburn U" and Jim Belushi went there. May I never say that Dick Enberg, despite being 90 years old, doesn't come prepared for gameday. I actually pictured him jumping out of his shoes upon learning those facts, and directing his crew to dig up some stock footage of Jim Belushi on the set of "Curly Sue", as well as Don Johnson on the set of "Nash Bridges" (Crockett went to KU! Bet you didn't know that!)

4) Also, Did you know? St. Louis has a Walk of Fame. Features everyone from Ozzie Smith to Maya Angelou. Oddly enough, famous wife beater Ike Turner (born in Mississippi) is on this walk of fame, yet President Harry Truman (born in Missouri) is not. Let it be said that St. Louians have their priorities straight.

A Saluki is an Egyptian hunting dog. For some reason, the Carbondale area of Illinois is known as Egypt, ergo the Saluki tie-in. SIU's former nickname was the Maroons (hence their current main color,) but for some reason, they changed it, I believe in the early 50's. Doesn't matter - they got gipped with a crap basket at the end of the first half and a shot clock violation that became two points for Kansas and lost by 3.
