I finally got to see Knocked Up on Sunday and let me tell you one thing…extremely disappointing. Don’t get me wrong - It had its good points but it wasn’t the comedy everyone has been hyping it up to be but it was a good movie. It had its laugh out loud moments (1 for me.) but for the most part, it wasn’t all that funny. I have spoke to several friends since watching this and we are all in agreement. And because I wasn’t laughing hysterically, I noticed that very few people were laughing hard. Sorry Bobby.

All these years I have thought that I have seen a certain M. Night Shamalan movie but after about 20 minutes of watching the movie I realized that I have never finished it. I’m talking about the brilliant piece of work know as Unbreakable. OH MY GOD this movie is amazing. If you haven’t seen it, please go watch it. You will not be disappointed. Everything about this movie is absolutely perfect except one minor thing at the end and anybody who’s seen it knows what I’m talking about.

Unbreakable- one of the most polarizing movies of the last 15 years. There is no middle ground, people either loved it or hated it (except for me, I thought it was "just ok"). I don't remember the ending...but what I do remember is that the movie ends just as it gets started, which is really frustrating (especially since they never made the sequel).
Also, there was no score throughout the whole thing....none...no music, no nothing. It made it kind of awkward...like watching a sporting event with crowd noise but no play-by-play
There is a definite ending. What I didn't like is how they ended with captions letting us know what happened with the characters. It was just dumb. Instead of thinking "Wow, what a great movie" you are thinking. "Why the hell did they do that. Oh yeah, that movie was awesome."
By not having any type of sound or music it draws me into the movie more. Not all movies can do it but I thought this one did it very well. It was teh same type of feeling you get when you watch Sling Blade. (Which is also fucking amazing.)
I'm lost though. I understand that some people wouldn't like it but how could somebody hate it? The cinematography was unforgettable and the acting was damn good too. I'm not sure how anybody could hate a movie with those two actors in teh lead roles.
Oh yeah, absolutely fantastic movie, but a lot of people I know hated it, too. I think people have a hard time understanding the significance of the last 20 minutes. Plus, Sam Jackson's hair worth the price of admission. I know many felt it was too long, but I loved it.
Yeah I'll agree it was shot very well. And as my friend in LA constantly reminds me, film is a visual medium, so apparently this should matter more than I give it credit.
I didn't hate it, and I don't think its terrible (I know people who walked out on it), but I think it had its moments of self-indulgence. Now this was 7 years ago when I saw it, but one scene sticks out...the one where his kid keeps stacking weights on the bar, and Bruce Willis continues to be able to lift them. This goes on for what seems like a half hour. Ok...I get it...he's a superfreak...lets move on dammit. The pace was ridiculous
AWM, I have to say you're wrong on Knocked Up but my guess is it has something to do with your unfeeling towards humanity and your internal fears of what happened in the movie ever happening to you, so I'll give you a pass. I would admit that this movie is probably funnier to me now than before I had lil' J.O.B., but it's funny as hell regardless.
Unbreakable: Easily one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time and very easily the 4th greatest comic book movie ever made (Superman, 1989 Batman and Spider-Man are the top 3 in no particular order, 'natch.) People I know that didn't like the movie thought it moved to slow (the pacing was deliberate - meant to bring humanity to a story about the superhuman,) and others bristled at being "duped" into seeing a comic book movie (which 7 years ago, was something to avoid.) Shamalyan more than anything makes movies for specific niche groups and this was definitely a nod to comic book fans. It is to date one of the greatest origin stories on film. I too wish they would have given an ending instead of a caption write-up, but budget and movie length can only go so long.
