Poopgate -- by J.O.B.

1) So I skipped taking a poop expectorant last night just to see if today would be any different ... no change today. Spent a good 20 minutes in the w.c. passing gas and scoring 945 on the "Continuous" mode on Bubble Breaker, but nothing doing. I'm pretty sure I pulled a rib muscle.

2) The Cubs get Jason Kendall. I know the guy is hitting two-twenty-something with only 2 dingers but this is an improvement over what they got out of Bowen and Kendall is vet with a good clubhouse attitude.

3) I've been thinking about officially joining the Libertarian Party, but I don't know exactly what the point of doing so would be. Not because Ron Paul has no shot of winning the Republican nomination (which he doesn't) but just because I don't know what officially joining the party accomplishes ... unless I decide to run for office someday.

4) I need this ... http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/giztradamus/soundwave-transformed-into-mp3-player-+-just-like-we-predicted-278674.php

remember- keep your camera phone on you...make sure you don't go to an auto-flusher!

Kendall is great with handling a pitching staff, which is about the nicest thing you could say about a dude with a .571 OPS. I'm not convinced he'll hit any more than Koyie Hill (who went yard last night) or even that prospect they have. By the way, the Cubs gave up a VERY intriguing prospect in this deal...a lefty by the name of Blevins, who is now hitting 95 on the gun, and striking out more than a hitter per inning at AA. He projects as a reliever, but lefty middle relievers are hard to come by these days...especially if they get guys out. This one could come back to bite 'em in the ass.

The Cubs are a lame duck team - they'll be sold in the offseason and the new owner is very likely to dump everyone from the President down. Why hold on to an AA prospect when you probably won't be there when he debuts in the majors? Hendry and McDunnough are obviously in a go-for-broke mode right now.

Ask Cavs fans about that...thats supposedly why Jim Paxson made the Jiri Welch for '07 #1 deal.

...and sure enough Paxson was fired. It sucks when organizations make short sighted moves that hurt the team in the long run based on their own lack of job stability. What kills me is that, like Jiri Welsch, Kendall is not likely to help the Cubs that much...if at all.

Young pitching is the most valuable commodity in the game today. You cannot give up on a young arm...especially when an organization as shrewd as Oakland's shows an interest...

Here's what else I don't get: I was listening to the radio on my way back yesterday, and the AM Radio blowhards were bitching about the Cubs lack of offense behind the plate. Ok, well if that was such a big deal, why trade Michael Barrett? And also, their lineup, while flawed, is fine (for that division especially). How many teams have a good offensive catcher anyway? The Braves, the Padres, the Dodgers and thats just about it. Maybe the Mets with Lo Duca, but thats a stretch. You don't need offense behind the plate! A catchers job is to catch...Koyie Hill was doing just fine. They'll probably win the wild card, and Kendall will get undue credit. Meanwhile, Blevins will become the next Dontrelle Willis (IE a sneaky good lefty that the Cubs let get away)

I should clarify: I meant NL teams that have a good offensive catcher

I know you're not comparing the Jiri Welch deal to this. The only similarity is that both the Cavs and Cubs were sold. You said it yourself, Kendall is great with handling a pitching staff. Hill is hitting .156. ONE-FIFTY-SIX! You don't think Kendall is better than this? Kendall is a vet and a guy who is well-liked - in your words, a catcher's job is to catch, not necessarily provide offense and that's exactly what he brings to the table.

As far as Blevins, one, I'll believe it when I see it and two, they have a number of other arms in their farm system they are looking at as well.

What do you expect Hendry to do? This is a make or break situation for him. If you never give up a young arm, at some point you end up with a lot of prospects that don't come through.
