On AWM's side - by J.O.B.

1) I think we all need to thank AWM for reminding us that blogs are no place for political correctness or sensibility. Especially when someone is fucking up your movie experience. If there was ever a reason to "grab the shottie" for some illegals, it's when they're interrupting a movie that may be shitty. Um, AWM - the director is Guillermo Del Toro - you didn't think you'd get at least one rambunctious full Hispanic family treating the theater like their living room?

2) Again, praise for AWM (I must be high.) Cloverfield was in deed, the shilznit. The basic premise doesn't necessarily get you jacked up (Monster movie, set in Manhattan, all from the perspective of one hand held video camera,) but the execution is refreshing, the no-name actors bring a realness to what's going on and despite having to suspend reality to believe the monster could exist, there is no unreal human physics at play. No one leaping an improbable distance, no one outrunning fire rushing down a hallway, no vital object being thrown an insanely long distance only to land perfectly in a heroine's hand. It was incredibly solid for a simple monster movie.

3) I should comment on the NFL Conference Championship games I guess. The Giants ruined Brett Favre's retirement that I had planned for a post-Super Bowl loss by upending the Pack in Green Gay. Does anyone with an ounce of testosterone actually believe Favre will let his last pass be an interception? Right - now let Aaron Rogers sign with the Bears and let's move on. In the AFC, the Patriots continue to win. One more and I'll be a happy camper. I like it when cool sports stuff happens during my life. Single season homerun records (chemically assisted or not,) winning 70 games in an NBA season (a Bulls reference!) and most definitely, a team completing a perfect NFL season. If you don't live in New York, aren't related to a current or former Giant, or aren't fucking Michael Strahan's ex wife (Super Bowl win = more endorsements = more alimony = more former Mrs. Strahan supporting your lifestye,) and still want the Giants to win, your sense of history is as limp as your dick. For one Super Bowl only - Go Pats.

4) Have you ever hated out of jealousy? I hate professional tennis right now. Not because I don't like tennis - I love tennis. However, nothing pisses me off more than being in a city where it's so called I know how long I can be outside without getting frostbite, while these homo-shirt wearing fucks play in tank tops in wonderfully warm Australia.

I agree with everything you just said about the movie.

Another thing I really liked about Cloverfield was that everything that you expected to happen, didn't. All the corny stuff that happens in action movies didn't make it to the final cut. Every time they could have taken the easy way out, they didn't and it made me happy throughout the movie.

Some craziness - This shattered Star Wars opening weekend record of 35.9 million. Cloverfield pulled in 41.

Yeah mother fuckers! It's 3:20 a.m. on a Monday and I'm commenting! You can do this shit when you "run your own business" and you "can go into the office when you feel like it".

Life is pretty good right now. :-)

Hold on - they shattered the re-release of Star Wars in 1997. It's not quite as jaw-dropping when we're talking about a re-release of a 20 year old movie - even if it is Star Wars.

Skurn- he's making potty references. 'Business' = 'shit' and 'office' = 'bathroom.'

Supposedly, and I missed this the first time around- if you look carefully in the last shot of the movie, when they are on the ferris wheel at Coney Island, you can see something splash down into the water behind them.....its suppose to be the monster. Creeeepy!!!!
